Brandon earns Aizawl FC lone-goal victory in I-League

Aizwal, Feb 1: Aizawl FC came back to their winning ways in the I-League as they defeated DSK Shivajians 1-0 here on Wednesday.

Brandon Vanlalremdika, who came on from the bench at the stroke of the hour mark, scored for the hosts to clinch the match.

Both teams started the match on the good note. In the fifth minute, DSK Shivajians were awarded a free-kick from 40 yards out, but they failed to utilise the opportunity.

Many shots from both the teams failed to find the back of the net.

In spite of the moves made by both sides to change the score-line in their favour, the first half ended goalless. The second half did not offer much goal-mouth action either, and play was concentrated in the midfield for most of the time.

But in the last 10 minutes of the game, the hosts became more fluent and as a result super-sub Brandon converted a half-chance to register Aizawl’s fourth win of the season under coach Khalid Jamil, which was also their third consecutive win at home.

Meanwhile, Minerva Punjab FC shared the spoils with Churchill Brothers FC Goa in the I-League at the Guru k Stadium at Ludhia on Wednesday.

After a dreadful loss at home against Red and Golds in their last fixture they filly put up a decent display to play a draw.

Churchill Brothers led by Keen Almeida have opted to bank on their winning formula playing the same eleven and same formation 4-1-4-1 against Minerva.

The game saw a lot of end-to-end action, with Minerva having most of the opportunities.

Both teams got chances to score in the first half but Minerva failed to covert.

In the second half, the game began to build up as Minerva and Churchill Brothers started using the width of the field and putting pressure in the opposition halves.

Churchill Brothers defender Rowilson came close to scoring after dribbling past Kareem and slotting a fine shot but missing the angle.

Adil Khan picked on some ambitious efforts from halfway through but they didn’t really trouble the Minervan custodian. (IANS)
