BRO asked to expedite road construction

Our correspondent

Itagar, April 5: West Kameng DC Dr Sol Swaroop has asked the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to expedite the ongoing road construction works on Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) and Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) roads.

The DC, who had a meeting with the Commanding Officer (CO) of 14 BRTF at Bomdila on Wednesday, expressed her dismay over the slow pace of works by pointing out that only six machines have been deployed and a few teams on road, an official report stated.

The BRTF CO during the meeting said that the substantial works including excavation, re-alignment, and retaining and breast wall construction have been completed.

On OKSRT road, the DC said that certain bridges were completely in a worn-out state and road submergence had taken place at several places.

The CO said that except for the Rupa and Gacham bridges, all bridges would be completed by December 2018 and road stabilization works started in Rupa and Kalaktang.

Referring to massive landslide, shooting stones and muck blockade on BCT road as experienced previous year, the DC suggested for positioning of the Rapid Action Team of BRO at all vulnerable points on BCT and OKSRT roads.

After detailed discussion, it was decided that one dozer would be placed at Rupa-Jigaon and Kalaktang each for OKSRT, one JCB will be placed at every 40-km or near at vulnerable spot along BCT road as part of the prelimiry response to landslides at such locations.

Moreover, one dozer on wheels would be placed at Balemu, Tenga and Tippi as the second response team. Further as third response team, excavator along with trailer would be available at Tippi/ Elephant, Dahung, Balemu and Kalaktang, the report added.
