Brown sugar seized, one smuggler arrested in Digboi

DIGBOI, February 9: Police recovered around 250 grams of brown sugar from the residential possession of Ranjit Baruah, son of Puneswar Baruah of No 2 Mohong under Bordumsa Police in Tinsukia district on Monday evening.
According to sources, Ranjit Baruah tried to escape the mobile check post raised by the security forces led by ASP Tinsukia which led the police to suspect and chase him, filly leading to his arrest from his residence, besides recovering the drugs weighing around 250 grams.
Meanwhile, based on the statement of the accused who was identified as habitual offender, police raided the residence of Jugeswar th alias Jaggu, a local peddler, and recovered cash around Rs 3.50 lakh from his residence. Jaggu has been absconding till the filing of this report.
Jaggu has been arrested several times by both the Assam and Aruchal police and prosecuted under NDPS Ac.
Talking to The Sentinel, various intellectual groups of the locality lamented the administrative and security lapses along the porous border check gate which boost the ubated circulation, consumption, sale and mobilization of rcotics in various forms.
A total of 4 NDPS cases have been registered at Bordumsa Police Station within a very short spell of time which categorically speaks in itself about the venom that the mece of drugs has spread to cripple the society.
Meanwhile, a case No 916 has been registered at Bordumsa Police Station and Ranjit Baruah has been prosecuted u/s 22 (C ) under NDPS Act .
