BSF guns down cattle 'smuggler'

DHUBRI, April 28: Sensation prevailed here after a 22-year-old boy allegedly gunned down by the Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel at Bhogdahar area in Dhubri district along Indo-Bangla border in the wee hours today. Sources said the boy , who has been identified as Abdul Khaleque , died on the spot when the BSF personnel opened fire targeting the boy in a paddy filed at Ilsamari village of the district this morning at around 4.30 am suspecting him to be a cattle smuggler.

A team of police led by Dhubri Additiol Superintendant of Police (ASP) Debasish Bora arrived at the village several hours after the incident to take stock of the situation.

The villagers alleged before the police that the BSF personnel have been torturing on them without any reason for last few months.  Meanwhile , BSF sources claimed that a group of cattle smugglers attacked on the BSF personnel with sharp weapons this morning  at Ilsamari village in the district when the BSF seized around 200 cattle heads which were tried to smuggle to Bangladesh by the smugglers.

“Some BSF jawans were injured in the attack. When the BSF retaliated one smuggler died on the spot,” sources said.
