Shamin Ahmad from Silchar bagged first prize in the 21 km Half Marathon race by completing it in a record time of 1 hour and 29 minutes. BSF constables E Miniswer and Deewan Singh bagged the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Cash prizes of Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 with trophies were distributed among them. Consolation prizes of Rs.2,000 each were given up to 8th position. Momta Fulmati and zomuddin Choudhury claimed the women and children title respectively in 5 km “Run For Fun”. Winners of the event up to 8th position were also awarded attractive cash prizes and trophies. During the closing ceremony, N S Jamwal addressed the gathering and participants and paid tributes to the martyrs and exhorted that BSF, ever since its inception, has played a vital role in not only safeguarding the intertiol borders but also contributed immensely when called up for the country’s interl security and anti-insurgency duties. Till date, more than 1850 BSF personnel have laid down their valuable lives for the tion. He thanked the sponsors, civil and police administration for traffic assistance, media persons, organizers and the participants for their valuable contribution in making the event a grand success. While culmiting the ceremony, the next of kin of the BSF martyrs hailing from Barak Valley were felicitated and presented with mementos and gifts.
