BSF observes Police Commemoration Day at Silchar

Silchar, Oct 23: BSF Mizoram and Cachar observed Police Commemoration Day parade at its Frontier headquarters at Masimpur last Saturday. The programme was presided over by N S Jamwal, Inspector General, BSF. The event, a solemn recognition of the valiant lives lost in the line of duty of the brave police personnel was attended by all ranks of the BSF, Masimpur. In his address, N S Jamwal drew attention of all personnel present in the parade towards the supreme sacrifices made by the brave border men who stood up to their motto of ‘Jeewan Paryant Kartavya’.

 The IG BSF stated that this year, a total number of 383 police personnel laid down their lives for the tion including 54 BSF personnel. N S Jamwal read the mes of all martyrs of all police organizations in the country, besides the state police. He also emphasized that the force would always be indebted to the contribution made by these brave martyrs. Two minutes silence was observed during the parade in the respect of the martyrs.

Chief guest N S Jamwal on the occasion flagged off the 21 km long half marathon from District Sports Association (DSA) ground at 6 am which concluded amidst great fanfare followed by a prize distribution ceremony at BSF campus Masimpur. Simultaneously a five km “Run For Fun” exclusively for women and children below 15 years was flagged off by the chief guest from the venue which converged at Rangirkhari point. It is pertinent to mention that inclement weather could not deter the spirit of the participants and people from all walks of life witnessed the event. Participants turned out in large numbers which reflected their wholehearted support for the noble cause. Around 825 participants, including men, women and children from different schools, colleges, NCC and security force personnel took part in the marathon with great enthusiasm. The run was a tribute to those brave souls who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

 Shamin Ahmad from Silchar bagged first prize in the 21 km Half Marathon race by completing it in a record time of 1 hour and 29 minutes. BSF constables E Miniswer and Deewan Singh bagged the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Cash prizes of Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 with trophies were distributed among them. Consolation prizes of Rs.2,000 each were given up to 8th position.  Momta Fulmati and zomuddin Choudhury claimed the women and children title respectively in 5 km “Run For Fun”. Winners of the event up to 8th position were also awarded attractive cash prizes and trophies. During the closing ceremony, N S Jamwal addressed the gathering and participants and paid  tributes to the martyrs and  exhorted that BSF, ever since its inception, has played a vital role in not only safeguarding the intertiol borders but also contributed immensely when called up for the country’s interl security and anti-insurgency duties. Till date, more than 1850 BSF personnel have laid down their valuable lives for the tion. He thanked the sponsors, civil and police administration for traffic assistance, media persons, organizers and the participants for their valuable contribution in making the event a grand success. While culmiting the ceremony, the next of kin of the BSF martyrs hailing from Barak Valley were felicitated and presented with mementos and gifts.
