BTC polls: Former Council EM slams ABSU

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Rangiya, March 8: Former Executive Member (EM) of BTC, Maheshwar Basumatary has slammed the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) for the organization participating in the BTC polls.

Addressing an election rally at Dhopargaon in Baksa district on Saturday, Basumatary said, “ABSU is a tiol organization of the Bodos. As a tiol organization, the student body should not have joined party politics.”

Coming down heavily on the ABSU, the former BTC EM said that if the PCDR, a conglomeration of seven organizations including ABSU, comes to power, the people of BTAD would have to go to the offices of the ABSU and NDFB (P) for development work.

“If people have to go to such offices, instead of the government offices, it can be easily assumed what kind of development would take place in BTAD,” Basumatary said.

He said that no development works have taken place in BTAD during the last five years. “The reason behind the lack of development in BTAD is the central government funds have been misused,” Basumatary added. He further said that there should not have any division between Bodos and non-Bodos.  “As all of we are people of Assam, there should not have such division among us. Therefore, the demand for deletion of non-Bodo village from BTAD should not be raised,” said Basumatary.

He said that some vested interests have raised such demands for their political gain.

“If we are voted to power, we will take strong action against the miscreants involving in violence in BTAD,” Basumatary said.
