Buddha Purnima celebrated with gaiety in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh, May 21: The Buddhist community here celebrated the 2560th Buddha Purnima on Saturday with gaiety and religious fervor.
A colorful procession was brought out by Dibrugarh Buddha Samity from Dibrugarh District Buddha Vihar at Grahambazar, which passed through all the main roads of the town stretching from Assam Medical College to New Market, Chowkidinghi, and Milangarh area, hymning from the Buddha scripture, and later culmited at the starting venue at Garahambazar.
The day’s programme kicked off at the premises of District Buddha Vihar with the hoisting of the World Buddhist flag by Monk in Chief, Sumedhanda Bhikkhu of Dibrugarh Buddhist Temple, Grahambazar.
The programme was followed by Budda Puja and offering of Panchasheel oath to the people. Bhante Sumendaji administered the oath of Panchasheel amongst the gathering.
A discussion on ‘Role of Buddhism in attaining world peace’ was held at the auditorium of Vihar here, with Bhante Sumendaji in the chair. The speakers, including social activist and director of ture Bacon, Sommyu Deep Dutta, noted socio-religious activist and writer, Boun Thi Gogoi , retired Superintendent of Police, Praffulla Kumar Senchowa, social activist, usad Ahmed Rahman and guest speaker from Sivsagar, Jivan Shyam, graced the occasion, and in their respective deliberation spoke on various aspects on the assigned subjects in detail. The discussion was earlier initiated by Bhante of the Vihar, Summedhanda Bhikku.Earlier, world peace prayer (Vishwa Santi Pratha) was held at the Vihar complex which was followed by lighting of lamps.
