Burmese betel nuts seized

Silchar, April 30: Burmese betel nuts worth about Rs.50 lakh in 200 bags were seized from two trucks by a team of Cachar police and TSI Silchar on Saturday at around 11 pm. Both the trucks were carrying these bags from Mizoram. The drivers were unable to produce any kind of challan and legal documents regarding the loaded betel nuts. Accordingly a case has been registered against the culprits vide Silchar police station case no 1329/18, under section 379/411 of the IPC. The police arrested Emanuel Chorei (19), Hoiril Seim Chorei (25), Peter Chorei (19) and Joy Chorei (27). All of them were residents of Magura Punji, under Bajarichera police station in Karimganj district. The recovered betel nuts have been seized as per seizure list.
