Buses gutted in ASTC workshop

GUWAHATI, Feb 7: In a major incident last night a mysterious fire burnt a number of buses at ASTC workshop at Rupgar in the city.

The Assam State Transport Workers’ Association (ASTWA) smelt a rat at the incident and maintained that mystery shrouded the incident.

“There should be a judicial inquiry into the incident that has charred as many as 18 buses. Else, we will be compelled to stage a protest,” ASTWA general secretary Dwijen Lahkar said.

Meanwhile, ASTC MD AP Tiwari said that 9 buses were partially burnt in the accident. “All of them were off road and most of them are auctioble… Online tender process is going on to dispose junk material. Investigation is on by police to understand the reason behind the fire incident,” he said.
