Cab Operators Association threatened to continue their 'Indefinite Fight' against Ola & Uber in Guwahati

Guwahati: The All Assam Cab Operators Association on Friday claimed that their indefinite fight against the Ola and Uber in the city is on. The cab operators further claimed that both Ola and Uber authorities have not paid any attention to their demands, despite knowing the fact that the drivers of both Ola and Uber are being struggled hard for their livelihood for the last few years.

Speaking to The Sentinel in this regard, All Assam Cab Operators Association, President, Ismail Ali claimed that so far they have submitted at least four to five Memorandums to the Deputy Commissioner of the Kamrup Metro informing their demands and claims against the commercial cab services of the Guwahati city, however, no appropriate actions were taken in their favour.

Ismail also mentioned that since the past several months at least three meetings were held amongst the Transport Department, Ola & Uber Authorities and All Assam Cab Operators Association.

He also informed that the cab operators association was surprised to know that the State Transport Department has got no record of the numbers of cabs running in the Guwahati city and have no data of the drivers as well.

In fact, such situations have turned into a nightmare for the cab drivers as they were left out with no more hopes from the State Transport department, stated Ismail.

It may be mentioned that earlier, DC Kamrup Metro had urged all the cab drivers to submit their identities to the District Administration within 10 days.

Also, speaking to The Sentinel, another cab driver not willing to be named alleged that they have already written about their problems to the companies but they didn’t get any reply. The silence of the concerned companies has left the cab drivers with no other option but to protest against it and it will only intensify if their demands are not met.

Earlier, Ismail Ali had blamed the company’s new policy under which the additional incentives were being discontinued. Ali also alleged that Ola and Uber have initially offered very attractive deals to the drivers which had helped them serving their customers in a very effective manner but the latest changes in the company policy had forced cab drivers to hold a repeated protest in the city.

It may further be mentioned that the All Assam Cab Operators Association will be holding a massive protest against the Ola and Uber authorities on October 22, 2018, and will submit a memorandum claiming their demands.

They also threatened the concerned authorities stating that if their demands are not met soon, they will resort to more vigorous democratic movement in coming days.
