Call for protection of Majuli at SAKP's annual conference

Dibrugarh, April 11: The 31st  annual conference of Sodou Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP)   held at Majuli College in Majuli from April 9 concluded on Saturday.

The open meeting held on the concluding day, presided over by SAKP president Bahsav Kalita was attended by the president, Jorhat Xahitya Xabha, Indrajit Kumar Baruah, advisor, AASU, Jorhat District unit, president , AJYCP, Majuli , Jagat Hazarika and president Majuli District PMPK, Kaman

The SAKP resolved a number of resolutions which were mostly concerned with the protection of Xatra gari –Majuli from flood and erosion. The other resolutions were, amongst others , all possible steps to be taken for flood and erosion protection and all round developments of Majuli, to declare the area as heritage site, to construct two bridges over the Brahmaputra connecting  Majuli with the rest of the places of south and north bank , necessary steps to be initiated for filling up all the vacant posts of teachers , health workers  and doctors , to make Majuli as tourist centre of Xatriya culture by constructing and upgrading the road and river  communication network and to pressurize both Central and State government for releasing arrears of 27 months from 2016, and to put more pressure for enhancing  the release of  health bonus.

The conference kicked off with the central executive committee meeting and iuguration of delegates camp by former teacher  Jogeswar Tyeng on April 9.

The second day’s programme started with the hoisting of SAKP flag by its president, Bhasav Kalita while swahid tarpan was offered by former president of Majuli unit of SAKP, Prafulla Bora. The souvenir Karma Jyog , which brought out to mark the conference was formally released by the principal of the Majuli College, Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia.

The Xatradhikari of Kamalabari Xatra, Sri Sri rayan Chandra Dev Goswami iugurated the cultural function.

On the concluding day a colourful cultural procession was brought out in the morning which was formally flagged off by the Xatradhikari of Kamalabari Xatra, Sri Sri rayan Chandra Dev Goswami.
