Call for tribal unity at AAGU annual conference

DONKAMOKAM, March 8: The 26th annual general conference of the All Assam Garo Union (AAGU) at Bhalukmari Garo Gaon, under Rowta PS BTAD concluded successfully on Sunday.  On the concluding day MLA of Udalguri LAC, Rihon Daimary attended as chief guest.

“Garos are peace-loving people and the Garos and Bodos are from the same Mongoloid stock having many similarities in language and food,” said Rihon. He stressed education and unity among the Garos to meet the challenges of the present competitive times.

MLA Rakheswar Brahma, Mazbat LAC, who was the guest of honour , said that politicians had been trying to divide tribal people. They had not yet been given all their constitutiol rights and so it was important for the tribal people to remain united.

MCLA of 40th Rowta constituency BTC, Alindra Mushahary in his speech said that Garos and Bodos were brothers and Garos were equally responsible for the development of BTC.

In the meet GNCC general secretary Balison Marak, GSU president BTC Trivin Sangma, advisor KAGU Sukumar Sangma, KAGU GS John D Sangma and many local leaders were present.

On March 6 the pandal of the conference was iugurated by AAGU president LK Sangma followed by unfurling of the flag the next day. In the election of the central committee of AAGU, Modhuth Marak and Joseph Sangma was elected as president and general secretary respectively for a period of three years.
