Call to set up rehabilitation centre for drug abuse victims

MANGALDAI, June 27: Darrang district administration and Mangaldai Sadar Police Station authority separately organized the Intertiol Day of Anti-Drug Abuse and Illicit Human Trafficking by here on Sunday with a day-long programme.

Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Manoj Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Sunil Kumar, Additiol Deputy Commissioner rrayan th, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Debo Ranjan Sharma along with other officials of the district civil and police administration took part in the awareness meeting organized on the occasion by the district administration in association with District Social Welfare Department and some non-government organizations at Mangaldai Town High School.

On the other hand, a meeting convened by the Officer in Charge of the Mangaldai Sadar Police Station at the conference hall of the Village Defense Organization (VDO) was participated by good number of people from different walk of life of the society, including grassroots level workers of the Village Defense Party, senior organizers of VDO, representatives of the students’ organization, NGOs, media persons among others discussed many things related to adverse effect of contraband drugs, spurious liquor and other intoxicated substances and measures to check the growing mece of the society.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border), Jehidul Islam, Circle Organizer of VDO, Mangaldai Police Station Circle, Kamal Boro, Secretary of VDO, Paniram Deka, secretaries of VDPs from different Gaon Panchayat levels mely Kalpa Debi Barua, Bhadreswar Deka and zimul Islam, president of NSUI, Darrang, Anjan Deka participated in the discussion. Earlier Officer in-Charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Inspector Lohit Ch Rabha explained the objectives of the meeting presided over by Gohin Kataki, president of the VDO, Mangaldai Police Station area.

The meeting also resolved to many decisions in connection with control of drug abuse like  demand of regular checking of business establishments selling Dendrite which is often used by youths and students for intoxication, stop sale of contraband drugs from the medicine shops without proper medical prescription , more action against the traders , transporters and government officials involved in the illegal practice of  spurious liquor, ganja and other substances used for intoxication and setting up a district-level rehabilitation centre for the victims of drug abuse, among others and advised the organizers to send these resolutions to the government level for necessary action.
