Car washing centre in residential area opposed in Haflong

A Correspondent

Haflong, June 25: Residents of NC Hills Autonomous Council colony, Haflong have vehemently opposed the establishment of car washing centre in the residential area as it will create public nuisance and also health hazards while destroying the environment. In this regard, Golon Daulagupu, former Executive Member of NC Hills Autonomous Council, along with several residents lodged a complaint before the Deputy Commissioner recently against the establishment of car washing centre in the residential area of NCHAC Colony.

It was stated that the Pollution Control Board of Assam had recently issued a certificate as 'consent to establish' in the name of M/s Car Washing Centre within the Autonomous Council colony just adjacent to quarter no. 6, quarter no. 1 and near the residence of Golon Daolagupu, former EM of NCHAC, without any official enquiry and even visit by the Pollution Control Board of Assam officials.

Now the residents near the proposed car washing centre are of the opinion that this car washing centre, if established, would cause serious health hazards. Moreover there are fisheries, ring well and sources of drinking water which will be directly contaminated with the washed waste. Apart from these, there is an apprehension of public nuisance in and around the locality. Hence the people of the entire area are vehemently opposing the establishment of the car washing centre in their locality.
