Care package for regiol films

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 7: Assam’s Annual Budget, 2017-18 also has a care package for the regiol film industry that is struggling hard to survive in the face of flourishing Hindi films.

“There is a general criticism that modern cinema halls like multiplexes are not very keen to screen Assamese/regiol films. In order to encourage exhibition of local films, I propose to grant 50 per cent entertainment tax exemption for a period of three years to permanent multiplexes, which have commenced or commence their commercial operation during a specified period provided they give a written undertaking to the effect that they will show Assamese/Regiol Film in one of the screens, if such Assamese/Regiol Film is available for screening at a particular point of time.”
