Cattle smuggling still thriving in State

SHILLONG, Jan 7: Even as the butchers under the banner of Khasi-Jaintia Butchers Association (KJBWA) boycotted the buying of cattle from Khapara to check smuggling to Bangladesh, the smugglers through their henchmen maged to procure from different sources.

The BSF seized 26 cattle heads Lyngkhat and Baldamgiri along the porous Intertiol border on Friday. The question is how these cattle heads procured in the me of buyers could reach the southern slopes and western fringes of Meghalaya in spite of the boycott call. There is a virtual closed down of beef market in the four districts of Khasi- Jaintia Hills since the KJBWA call for a boycott.

On Friday night, seizure of cattle was also made by the BSF troops deployed at Lyngkhat and Baldamgiri where 26 nos cattle were seized at Intertiol Border.

Subsequently,  The BSF troops deployed at Rongra, West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya observed a truck bearing No. AS-5-C-5756 coming towards Rongra side. The BSF party stopped the truck and bbed one Indian cattle carrier with 22 nos cattle laden truck on Intertiol Border while being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.

The cattle carrier identified Kopiyan Ali (26 yrs) S/o Roshan Ali, resident of VPS- Lakhipur, Distt Goalpara (Assam). Party also seized 02 mobile phones with 03 Indian SIM card from his possession.

 Prices of cattle have gone up in recent months after the BSF checked the illegal supply channels to Bangladesh. The BSF has continuously been in its drive against the Cattle smugglers. In another incident the troops of BSF deployed at ndichar, South West Garo Hills district, seized 114 bottles of Phensedyl while being smuggled out to Bangladesh from India. The smugglers maged to escape taking the advantage of darkness and dense bushes. Smugglers are using different disguised techniques to smuggle the Phensedyle from India to Bangladesh but BSF troops are alert and well trained to foil such attempts of smugglers.

This smuggled Phensedyle is sold to the drug addicts of Bangladesh at huge price. The Border Security Force has intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent and curb trans-border crimes.
