Cattle theft on the rise, two stolen cows recovered

Dibrugarh, May 29: The illicit activities of cow thieves have picked pace here. Although such unlawful instances are not new, what is appalling is that the rate of incidence has simply shot up, unlike earlier, when they used to take place sporadically. In the latest of such actions, a police operation managed to recover two stolen cows along with a car on Sunday night. As per sources, the car was a Tata Indica Vista bearing registration number AS-23-J-8466, which was used by the absconders for whisking the cows away. Shockingly, the number of seized cars involved in the cow stealing trade has gone up to 22 with this incident.

Miscreants used all kinds of cars, including SUVs like Mahindra Xylo and Mahindra Scorpio, for this purpose. After removing the backseats of the vehicles, the cows are herded into the space thus available, and carried either to different destinations, or one. However, gaining control of such vehicles is not serving the purpose for the police as the culprits often find a way to be at large. To complicate things further, no claims are made on the confiscated cars.
