CCTV cameras help reduce crime in city

SHILLONG, April 12: The installation of CCTV cameras has greatly helped the police in detecting and preventing crime in Shillong city, claimed the Superintendent of Police (SP), East Khasi Hills District. There are around 30 odd CCTVs installed in vital locations of the city  and the results have already been seen, Kharkrang divulged without giving the details of the type of crime that the police have crack in the past one month.

He said, “The CCTV cameras have helped in detecting and preventing crime in Shillong city,” adding, “It has helped police check the traffic and prevent traffic violations”.

The SP also said that they are waiting for the 2nd phase of the “Safe and Secure Shillong” project to kick start in the city on the approval of the government.

Meanwhile, on the recent crackdown of overloading of taxis and tourist taxis in the city, SP M Kharkrang said the public should come out and file a complaint against any local or tourist driver who is abusive or does not pay head to the capacity restrictions, and that the public can even write a complaint on the Facebook page of the Shillong Traffic Police, after which a response will be sent back to the complaint. SP Kharkrang also stated that “strict action will be taken against anyone who breaks traffic rules and that their vehicles will be compounded”.
