Centery birth anniversary of Bodo poet Ishan Mushahary observed

KOKRAJHAR, November 9: The centery birth anniversary of Bodo poet Ishan Mushahary was observed at Kokrajhar Government College here in Kokrajhar with a three-day colourful programme.

As part of the celebration, 100 earthen lamps were lit to mark the occasion on Sunday evening in presence of a large gathering which included students from various colleges, family members and intellectuals. A portrait of the poet, who is regarded as the John Keats of Bodo literature and who died at the early age of 26 years, was unveiled.

A youth festival is held every year by the Kokrajhar Government College where students from various colleges participate. Various competitions like song, dance, literary, drama are held among the students. Ishan Mushahary, in his short life, wrote several poems, mostly romantic.

Brajendra Kumar Brahma, Tagore Literary Award winner in 2009, columnist Dr. Subungsa Mushahary and others attended the function on Sunday. The programme came to an end on Monday with various cultural and literary competitions.
