Centery of birthday celebration of saint ends

GUWAHATI, Feb 12: Sri Sri Hati Xatra Bura Xatradhikar Bhagneshwar Mahanta said that people have forgotten their own religion and started following and getting influenced by other religion, which is alien to their identity. Bura Xatradhikar installed the holy seat of the mentor on the occasion of the centery year of the celebration of the birth anniversary of the 15th century saint Srimanta Sankardev under the aegis of Sri Sri Ishwar Hati Xatra at Soram HS School playground in the city. The xatra is first to observe birth anniversary of the saint in 1917.  The three-day event ended today amidst a huge gathering.

As part of the celebration, Usha Kirton (a ritual to offer prayer early in the morning) at 5 am marked the beginning of the activities. The celebration was also marked by am Prasanga and am (Vaishvite ritual of offering prayer) in the morning, afternoon and evening by devotees. Cleanliness drives and plantation of saplings are also associated with it.

 The open meeting on the second day was taken part as the chief guest by Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and distinguished guests by Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sri Hati Xatra Deka Xotradhikar Rajib Locahn Sant and others.

Borgeet, Xatria Nritya, Ojapali, Thio am were parts of the cultural evening on the occasion.
