Bongaigaon, January 20: “All Central Government offices will be locked down from March unless all the demands of the tiol Joint Council of Action (NJCA) are fulfilled,” said Rakhal Das Gupta, president of All India Railwaymen’s Federation in New Bongaigaon on Wednesday. He said this during the four-hour long protest in New Bongaigaon Railway Workshop organized by NJCA Bongaigaon and New Bongagaon branch. This demonstration was part of a three-day long India-wide protest called by NJCA for fulfillment of 26-point charter of demands which had been submitted by NJCA to the Government of India.

“The rendra Modi-led Central Government is adopting anti-labour policies like the previous UPA government. They are making policies keeping the interest of corporate houses in mind. But we will never let them do so. Hence we have already submitted a 26-point demand charter to the Prime Minister. But the government is playing a negative and silent role regarding the fulfillment of these demands which are intended for development and betterment of the condition of working class people. Hence all Central Government employees have been compelled to adopt the path of agitation under the banner of NJCA,” he said.

Rakhal Das Gupta added, “NJCA had called a three-day long protest programme India-wide from January 19 and this demonstration is a part of that programme. If the government does not fulfil our demands immediately, then from March we will declare indefinite strike. No employee will go to duty from then and we will suspend the total system through our agitation.”

Several leaders of the North east Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union including Chushen Hazarika, central organizing secretary Dipen Bora, president, Bongaigaon branch, Pabitra Barman, secretary, New Bongaigaon workshop branch, M R yak, president New Bongaigaon branch, S S Mochahay, Bongaigaon –New Bongaigaon branch convener of NJCA and many others participated in the protest.
