Itagar, April 4: Aruchal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy has accused the BJP of sabotaging and diluting the long cherished SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act through the March 20 Supreme Court decision.
The April 2 Bharat Bandh was outcome of provocation of ST and ST population that claimed 10 lives, Sanjoy said in a statement here on Wednesday while condemning the move.
Sanjoy charged the Central Government for its failure to move the apex court in the desired manner.
“Their silence during the hearing has exposed the government’s ‘witch haunting’ on the Act,” he alleged.
Sanjoy urged the Centre to amend the Act or file a curative petition to prohibit atrocities committed against SCs and STs in the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambdedkar.
