Centre’s Push to Augment Connectivity in Northeast

GUWAHATI: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Railways have incurred Rs 12,215 crore and Rs 17,048 crore under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) respectively in the last three years for improving connectivity infrastructure in the nort-eastern region, stated Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

As per reports, road projects under the SARDP-NE including ‘Arunachal Package for Roads & Highways’ is being implemented. Under the ‘Arunachal Package’, out of total of 2,319 km road worth Rs 15,643.00 crore, road length of 1,934 km has been sanctioned and out of which 928 km has been completed so far.

New line capital connectivity railway projects have been initiated for all the capital cities of Northeast since 2003-04. Railways has taken many steps in the last three years to expedite the execution of these capital connectivity projects and monitoring of projects is being done at various levels (field level, divisional level, zonal level and board level). Concept of incentives to the contractors has also been adopted by the Railways to enhance the pace of execution of projects. (PIB)
