Chandubi Festival from today

MIRZA, Dec 31: The five-day Chandubi Festival will being on January 1, 2016 and will conclude on January 5.

 According to Debojit pha, adviser of the Chandubi Festival organising committee, Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Tangkeswar Rabha will iugurate the festival.

 Sources said the festival is being organised since the last few years with an objective to popularise the famous Chandubi Beel and its adjoining vibrant forests to attract tourists to the area and also to showcase the rich art and culture of the Rabha tribe.  Prominent actress Cheta Das will on January 1 iugurate the cultural stage, which has been made with bamboo, cane and straw.

 The souvenir titled Lokeya will be released by senior jourlist Anuradha Sarma Pujari on January 1 at 12 noon. On the second day, a colourful cultural procession will be flagged off by singer mita Bhattacharjee at 11 am. Bogejari Pragatisil Sahitya Chakra will organise a programme based on literature-related events at 1 pm.
