JOYSAGAR, May 18: The Charaidew district administration in association with the district archeological survey and district tourism department has been taking an initiative to preserve three Ahom era Maidams which were unearthed recently in the Charaidew Parbat Tea Estate area by the Tea company workers. These historic Maidams suddenly came in to light when the labourers of the Parbat Garden went to dig earth for tea plantation last month. Considering the ancient values and importance of the monuments of the past, the Charaidew administration, under the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner BN Phukan, has decided to preserve the same and therefore the administration called for a special meeting with the Parbat Tea Estate authorities on Thursday where various issues were discussed. Sources revealed that the Parbat TE authorities have agreed to hand over a particular site of garden land to the Charaidew Administration so that necessary steps could be taken to preserve the ancient Maidams while making the place another tourism destination under Charaidew district, sources added.
