Guwahati, Nov 2: The Kuki community in and around Guwahati and Shillong celebrated ChavangKut, a post-harvest festival, at the GMC auditorium recently under the theme— “how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity”.

The celebration of ChavangKut this year was marked by the commemoration of the centery year of the Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919), stated a press release.

The festival was organised recently under the aegis of Kuki Welfare Association (KWA) of Guwahati.

Chief Minister of Assam Sarbanda Sonowal graced the occasion as chief guest, while chief commissioner of central goods and service tax and customs of NER, Shillong, WL Hangsing was the guest of honour.

An exhibition of cultural dances and songs from Guwahati-based sister organisations such as Hmar Welfare Association, Biate Welfare Association, Zomi Welfare Association, etc. was a part of the festival. There were performances by KCK-ARC and Edmundians from Shillong and Guwahati Lawm of Guwahati, among others. Renowned folksinger Benny Khongsai enthralled the huge gathering with his numbers. On the occasion, Andrew Paoginlen Lotzem, who was the silver medallist at the Serbian U-17 Youth Intertiol Badminton Championship, was awarded Kut Icon 2017 for his distinguished achievements.
