Check gun violence, APCC to Government

Itagar, July 18: The Aruchal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has criticised the Pema Khandu-led government for failing to check gun-related violence in the state.
The criticism, however, is a reaction to a series of shootout incidents in the State.
“Indifference to gun violence will enfeeble the poor law and order situation in the State. Such incidents will fuel gun culture and legalise unlicensed arm trades across the State evoking Jungle Raj,” APCC spokesman Mi Toko said in a statement here on Tuesday.
“Guns are easily procured by convicted crimils and misused by few law-enforcing personnel to settle business feuds, retaliatory murders and to heighten status symbol of an individual. Such lax gun laws of the State can be fatal. The State government must stiffen the gun ownership laws,” the party said.
The APCC alleged that the State government has ignored reminders on the issue and has not taken any precautiory measure to check the rise in crimil activities that threaten the common people. The party demanded routine patrolling and strict vehicle checking in the twin city.
“The State government must equip the law-enforcing agencies with all the required apparatus. If uble to, the Chief Minister and Home minister must step down,” Toko said.
