Cheques distributed to construction workers

LAKHIMPUR, Dec 17: A ceremonial function of cheque distribution to the beneficiaries under the Building and Other Construction Workers (RE and CS) Act, 1996 was organized at the District Library auditorium in Lakhimpur district on Saturday.

Cheques covering a total amount of Rs. 1.40 crore were distributed to 1,500 construction workers in the programme. Out of it, cheques up to Rs. 3,05,720 to each of those construction workers who died while working, up to Rs. 55,000 to each of those who died of disease, Rs. 1,50,000 for medical treatment and Rs. 20,000 as the medical expenditure and educatiol scholarship of the construction workers’ children were distributed in the programme.

The cheques were formally distributed by Pallav Lochan Das, State Labour Welfare Minister, who participated in the programme as the chief guest. In his speech, he regretted that the aspiring schemes of the government do not come into effect in the State due to lack of mass awareness. He appealed to the educated conscious citizens to help them in this regard.

Additiol Commissioner of Labour Department, Anusuya Dutta, Deputy Commissioner K Chingsang, Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta, Bihpuriya MLA Debanda Hazarika, Lakhimpur DC Barun Bhuyan, chairman of Lakhimpur Municipal Board Samiran Konwar, Lakhimpur BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, social activist Jayanta Khaond, and DLO JP Agarwala were present in the programme.
