Lakhimpur, November 7: More than 10,000 people of Lakhimpur district performed Chhath Puja on the banks of Humdhi River.

The devotees prayed on the banks of the river on Sunday evening. They again came to the same place at 4 am on Monday to pray to the rising sun to complete the ritual and end their fast. Special arrangements were made by the Municipal Board of Lakhimpur to maintain cleanliness. Police officials were present to prevent any untoward incident.

“Chhath Puja is important for us as we pray to the setting and rising sun. We consider the worship of the Sun God to be divine. We believe that the Sun God will bless us and protect us in our troubled times. Chhath Puja has been celebrated in North Lakhimpur district from many years. Now the number of devotees has increased incredibly and in the coming years we hope that more devotees will join us to worship the Sun God. This time a cultural programme was organized by the Chhath Puja committee of Lakhimpur and Nisha Dubey, a prominent singer was invited to perform,” said Satpal Gupta of Akhil Asom Bhojpuri Committee.
