Chhath Puja celebration kicks off in Digboi

DIGBOI, Oct 26: Chhath Puja celebration commenced at the Immersion Point near AOD Centery Park, Digboi on Thursday. The programme, which is being organized by Digboi Suryasasthi Mahautsav Samity, has attracted a large gathering of religious devotees and general people.  According to Hindu mythology, the worship of the Sun God is related to the cure of a range of diseases such as leprosy and various other skin-related ailments. On Chhat Puja, people pray to the Sun God for the well-being, success and progress of their family members, friends, and elders. It is also assumed that Chhath Puja was first started by Suryaputra Kar. He was a great warrior and had ruled over the Anga Desh (Munger district of Bihar) during the Mahabharata period.

Meanwhile, the Digboi Police headed by Inspector Mahesh Chandra Bora of Digboi Police station and Digboi based 38 Battalion CRPF, have left no stone unturned to ensure the safe and peaceful celebration of the festival, and deputed enough security forces in almost every celebration spot, including zirating ghat, Digboi immersion pond, Bengali Balijan near Mamorani and several other places to assist the devotees and provide security during the period. The celebration will conclude on Friday with suryodaya argh and paran or breaking of the fast at dawn.
