Chief Minister meets ILP representatives

IMPHAL February 18: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi held a meeting with the representatives of the political parties and the Inner Line Permit system activists today from 10 am to 12:30 pm. The meeting, ahead of the Assembly session, when a bill to check influx of migrants will be introduced, was a mere formality. The activists said that the base year for the migrant workers should be 1951 and all those who  came to Manipur after it should be regulated with work permits and domicile pass. The Labour Department should monitor their works. Besides, they should not be allowed to own land. The Chief Minister had assured that the government will do everything to protect the interests of indigenous people. However, he said that it is not possible to deny them rights to possess land since they are Indians.
