Chief Minister takes stock of flood situation in State

 GUWAHATI, June 12: In the wake of incessant rain for the last few days which led to causing flood in 16 districts of the State, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi directed the State Administration to take steps for making food stuff, medicine and other essential commodities ready to face any exigencies, stated a press release.

In a high level meeting held this evening at his Official residence at Khapara, Chief Minister Gogoi directed the Chief Secretary V.K. Pipersenia for making adequate food stuff, medicine, drinking water etc ready for the affected people. Gogoi also directed state administration to do everything for relief and rescue operation in the wake of the flood that has affected 16 districts in the state.

Chief Minister Gogoi  also directed the state machinery to take steps for making additiol boats ready which might have to be pressed into service for rescuing affected people. Instruction was also given to the Public Health Engineering Department for providing drinking water to the affected people along with chlorine sachets for averting any health related hazards.

Moreover, Health and Family Welfare Department has been asked to supply adequate medicine along with mobile medical van to cater to the medical needs of the flood affected people.

Chief Minister Gogoi also directed the concerned authority to carry out vulnerability assessment work on a war footing and take adequate steps to prevent any breach in the embankment. The state experienced 14 breaches in the current spell of flood, 10 in lbari District, three in Sonitpur and one in Karimganj. Moreover, Chief Minister also directed the state machinery to maintain constant liaison with the Bhutan Administration along with sharing flood related data to mitigate the impact of flood.  

The current spate of flood has affected 16 districts, 44 Revenue Circles 44, villages 580 and 2,11,345  population  and  four number of relief camp have been set up.

Revenue, Disaster Magement Minister Dr. Bhumidhar Barman, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. zrul Islam, Water Resources Minister Basanta Das, Public Health Engineering Minister Sukur Ali, Additiol Chief Secretaries Subhash Das, MGVK Bhanu, Devender Yadav along with other top officers were present in the meeting.
