Child dies in Swrmanga river in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, July 28: Purnima rzary (5), daughter of Chandan rzary of New Banglajhora village, the worst affected village by the River Swrmanga (Saralbhanga), died in the river on Thursday morning where she had gone to defecate. Sources said the little girl who was living in the relief camp in the river bund, went to the river side along with two other friends at around 9 am when Purnima got washed away while she was trying to clean herself. Her death has shocked the other camp inmates as the relief camps are surrounded by the rivers Swrmanga on one side and Kalasi on the other side. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, MP Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the unfortute incident. He said a sum of Rs. 25,000 had been given for her last rites. He also said the Government of Assam would provide Rs 4 lakh as compensation.
