KOKRAJHAR, August 11: Kokrajhar district is considered to be one of the most vulnerable districts of Assam in terms of child mortality rate.  The number of deaths of children in district is considered to be the highest in the State.

Participating in the awareness programme of Mission Indradhanush under the Directorate of Field Publicity of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India on Monday, the Joint Director of Health Services, Kokrajhar, Dr JC Boro said that Kokrajhar district was one of the most vulnerable districts where child mortality rate was highest.  He said that due to lack of sufficient awareness and facilities from the health department, the death toll had been increasing. He also said that due to the last ethnic riots in BTC, most of the children were not  given Indradhanush drops.

Ranjit Medhi, field officer of the programme said that in most of the remote places, the children were affected with various diseases.  To bring awareness, they had been organizing mobilization programmes. Basically, both Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts had been identified as vulnerable for children who were affected by various diseases, he said, adding that they had been giving special emphasis to counter the diseases in these two districts under Indradhanush mission.

A rally was also taken out from Chitila community hall to Chitila Tili where a large number of Asha workers participated.
