Child Protection Day observed

Mangaldai , March 5: The Child Protection Day was observed at Mangaldai on Saturday along with the rest of the State.  In this connection, District Child Protection Unit,  Darrang organized a public function at the premises of Kasturi Children Home which was attended by intertiolly acclaimed Economist and  Professor of Sam Houston State University, Texas,  USA, Dr. Hiranya th as the chief guest.  In his address he lamented the recent incident of twin children in Sivsagar falling prey to the evil effects of superstition and blamed the society as a whole instead of the accused for this heinous crime.  He appealed to all in the society to come forward to create a crime-free environment where each and every child might enjoy their childhood without any hesitation and fear.  He also urged the parents and guardians to value the persolity of their children even though some of the activities of their children could not be supported.

The meeting anchored by Rasmi Rekha Sarma of Kasturi Children Home, was also addressed by Bhupesh Ch Das , CEO,  Darrang Zilla Parisad,  Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati , ADC, Darrang  , Dr Radhika Debi,  chairman CWC , Darrang , Amit Kr Hojai,  DSP (Probatiory),  Bhargab Kr Das,  senior jourlist , and others.  The speakers threw light on various aspects of children protection including illicit child trafficking, child labour , child abuse and child marriage, and the role of the guardians,  society , government and administration in protecting the children from such meces. The meeting also witnessed rendering songs in chorus by eight inmates of Kasturi Children Home and prominent singer Kakoli th.  The meeting was attended by local senior women citizens, students of Mangaldai College, members of local NGOs and media persons.
