GUWAHATI, March 4: The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR), in collaboration with UNICEF, Assam field office, observed the Child Protection Day today at Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.
More than 1,200 schoolchildren and key stakeholders from various parts of Assam and special invitees participated in the programme. Chairpersons and members of 24 states commissions for protection of child rights from India gathered to mark the occasion.
Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice K Shreedhar Rao iugurated the celebration as the chief guest. David Machloulin, Dy Director, UNICEF India Country Office, was also present as the special Guest. The Chief Justice highly appreciated the Commission for its tireless work towards protecting the rights of children in Assam. The UNICEF reiterated its commitment towards assisting the commissions in their endeavours.
Preceding the Child Protection Day, an interactive session of all SCPCRs, was held at a city hotel on March 3, where all chairpersons and members together adopted Guwahati Charter of Action on Protection of Child Rights, which would be submitted to Government of India through tiol Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
