Children's Day observed in State

SHILLONG, Nov 14: Along with the rest of the country, Children’s Day was celebrated today in Meghalaya.

On the initiative of the Governor, V Shanmugathan, over 200 children and teachers from 40 different schools of the city participated in the celebration at the Raj Bhavan, which marks the 126th birth day of legendary freedom fighter and independent India’s first Prime Minister – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Interacting with the children, Shanmugathan expressed his happiness at the impressive and unique presentations made by the young participants.

The celebrations were made more colourful with the cultural events presented by the artists from the Arts and Culture Department and the children from Synod Higher Secondary School and St. Joseph Higher Secondary school.

Meanwhile at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong the celebration was marked by skillful and colorful performances by students representing various schools from across the city. The songs and dances mesmerized the gathering of students, parents, teachers and government functiories.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Deputy Chief Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh, expressed his happiness for being associated with the celebration of the 126th Birth Anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was considered as ‘the architect of modern India’.

At Jowai the District School Education Officer, Jowai in collaboration with the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills today celebrated the Children’s Day at Tpep Pale Hall, Jowai with full enthusiasm.
