Children's theatre workshop begins at Silchar

Silchar, July 4: Renowned medicine specialist Dr Giridhari Kar iugurated the 8-day children’s theatre workshop ‘mita Das Dey Memorial’ at Teachers’ Training College of this town last evening. The theatre workshop has been organized by Kala Academy in collaboration with Bhabikal Theatre Group. Among others who graced the occasion included theatre persolity Subrata Sambhu, Professor Debasish Bhattacharjee and others. The Theatre Group came into being on May 24, 1984, and since then there has been no looking back for them.

 Registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1960, the Theatre used to stage dramas only in its initial stages. Then followed setting up of a training centre where workshops used to be conducted every now and then. Kala Academy started its glorious journey from 2004 and since then they have been also organizing children’s theatre workshop during summer vacations. It is a wing of Bhabikal Theatre Group where illustrious theatre persolities have been working. The prestigious tiol School of Drama collaborated with the Theatre Group. Regular classes and workshops are being provided through Kala Academy.

 Impressed with the setting up of a training workshop, NSD used to send a trainer to train the children participants every year. However, NSD stopped sending any trainer for workshop by stating that Bhabikal’s Santanu Paul is efficient to be a camp director and sending an NSD trainee would be redundant. The present workshop has been organized in the fond memory of late mita Das Dey who was always with the Group. Her sad demise has created a vacuum, a void in the cultural world.
