SHILLONG, Dec 20: Shillongites may be in for a cold Christmas with the minimum temperature in the city expected to hover around 4 degree to 5 degree celsius mark while the maximum is expected to hover from around 13 degree celsius to 14 degree celsius till December 26. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as per the data recorded on Sunday the maximum temperature during the past 24 hours was 12.5 degree celsius which was 3 degrees below normal for this time of the year. The minimum temperature recorded was 4.9 degree celsius which is 2 degrees below normal for this time of the year. On Sunday, despite the dip in the mercury however did not dampen the spirit of those readying themselves for Christmas. On Sunday despite holiday shops in the commercial area of Police Bazar were remained open and people were seen shopping ranging from apparel to shoes. Warm clothes sellers, especially those selling warm second hand clothes, were seen doing brisk business. Besides putting on warm clothes people are using various means to keep themselves warm like burning heaters, blowers, charcoal and wood.
