Chirang celebrates I-Day with gaiety

KOKRAJHAR, August 16: Together with the rest of the country, the 69th Independence Day was celebrated with great fanfare at District Parade Ground of Kajalgaon in Chirang district on Saturday.

In the programme, the BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgayary unfurled the tiol flag and took the salute of the march past comprising seven contingents of school students, Assam Police and Home Guards.

In his speech, he extended his hearty greetings to all the residents of Chirang district and appealed to all to pay tribute to the Father of the tion MK Gandhi, freedom fighters and patriotic leaders who had secured freedom for the tion. He highlighted important achievements   of different departments like PWD, PHE, DRDA, Education Department, Agriculture Department, Social Welfare Department, H&FW Department, Water Resources Department and the projects being taken up by the BTC administration on various fronts.

As part of the celebration, a dazzling cultural programme was presented by school children and prizes and citations were given to students who topped this year’s fil examitions from the district. At the same time, media persons Sunil Kr. Sharma and Bhrigumuni Roy were also awarded for their outstanding service in the field of jourlism in district. The Best Teachers and Best Guardians along with winners of the best marching contingents and best cultural performance were also given away prizes and citations in the programme. In spite of incessant rainfall, besides government officials and dignitaries, a large number of people from in and around Chirang district gathered to witness the celebration.
