Chirang court hands down lifers to 3 for witch-hunting

Bongaigaon, November 29: Three persons accused of witch-hunting were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Chirang district session court on Tuesday.
Dukhiya Kuzur, Dukha Kuzur and Jhigra Kuzur had murdered a woman med Lalo Pan on July 29, 2008. Lalo Pan was a resident of Subaijhar village under Basugaon PS of Chirang district. Accusing her of being a witch, the three persons killed her in her house. Later, relatives of Lalo lodged an FIR against the three and police arrested them. After eight years of investigation and trial in court, the court of Hema Devi Bhuya sentenced them to life imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine under IPC section No 302.  Karu Kanta Das was the public prosecutor.
