Chirang DC moves to reduce road mishaps in district

Bongaigaon, Dec 24: In a significant move to prevent road accidents in the district, Chirang Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rupak Kumar Mazumdar has put alert the police and other departments concerned on alert.

There have been frequent accidents, some fatal, on the newly-constructed NH-31-C at certain vulnerable spots like Dhaligaon, Palashbari, Sidli and Kachigotra which the DC felt required the urgent attention of the officers entrusted with traffic control. As such, based on allegation made by the local residents, he expressed his concern over the rash driving by vehicles from Bhutan, pillion riding without helmets, reaching late of ambulances at the accident sites, not enough road signs for diversion, no roads, speed breakers and warning to pedestrians at vulnerable locations and haphazard truck parking on the tiol highway.

In this connection, the DC asked the Chirang SP to deploy adequate police personnel on the highway for checking violation of traffic rules, pillion riding without helmets, rash driving and drunken driving. Accordingly, he also asked the authorities of NHAI, PWD (R&B), DTO, health services and town committees to put all efforts on their part to prevent accidents in the district.
