From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 15: In order to find out unscrupulous people who made false claims about legacy, the Chirang district administration is all set to conduct verification process on mismatched family trees across the district from February 17. Asserting the NRC family tree verification process, Chirang Deputy Commissioner Ratul Barua said that in case of mismatch, the applicants claiming linkage from the legacy person would be called to one location for confirmation. In this regard, Letter of Information (LOI) would be distributed to them but the people who receive the LOI should not have any fear or apprehension as receipt of such letter was not an indication of being considered doubtful or leading to exclusion from the NRC. It was only an opportunity to ensure legacy of each genuine citizen, he added. He also informed that some applicants who had already been included in the part draft of NRC might also get LOI to appear and testify to prevent misuse of their legacy data by any person mischievously. In this connection, he requested all those persons who would be invited to appear for proceedings for family tree verification to bring along a photo identity and supporting documents.

In this connection, the district administration has already appointed 27 Verifying Officers and nine District Magistrate’s authorized officers for  26 NSKs to verify a total of 4,228 cases in the district. He appealed to the people of Chirang district to support and extend cooperation to make the NRC update process in the district a grand success.
