Choir festival: Mistletoe sets tone for Christmas in Tura

SHILLONG, Dec 23: Heavenly, joyful songs of Christmas and carols resoted in the air at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre, here on Tuesday evening as one choir after another took the stage capturing the audience with their performances at the Choir Festival, “Mistletoe – Jingle in the Hills”.

The Choir Festival was conceptualized by the Department of Arts and Culture to promote Meghalaya as a Christmas destition and organized by the West Garo Hills District Administration and Tura Arts & Culture Society for the very first time involving the Churches in Tura and beyond.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma with his wife and Chairperson of Meghalaya Resources and Employment Generation Council, Dikkanchi D. Shira and Chief Secretary P.B.O Warjri attended the festival along with thousands of audience from Garo Hills.

Alobo ga and his band from galand and Shillong’s Aroha Choir performed at the event adding colour to the event.

Later, the all the choirs and the audience joined in the Songkristan – a tradition Garo community Christmas dance at the venue.

The celebration began with a short prayer service led by Pastor of Tura Baptist Church, Rev Stafford

K Sangma, who in his sermon exhorted the audience to celebrate Christmas in its true spirit.
