Chorus for reming children’s park as ‘Balloonwala’

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

Silchar, Jan 11: The tender kids of Chorus, a dramatic and social organization of this town, marched down with balloons afloat in their hands in a body to Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, S Viswathan and handed him over a memorandum, urging upon him to reme the Children’s Park as ‘Balloonwala’. As already pointed out, the image of the ‘Balloonwala’, Lakhi th of dia, who used to sell balloons to the children by moving around the lanes and by-lanes, continues to haunt the citizens of this town. ‘Balloonwala’ was a popular moving figure and though he left this world in a few years back, a section of guardians who once rushed after hearing his voice to have their choicest colour of balloons have put the children in the forefront to demand the park after his me.

There was no place or park for children of this town prior to 2005. It was the kids of Chorus who took the initiative and the then Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Sunda Sengupta, allotted a plot of land against the scenic background. This plot of land has been developed and beautified in all possible manners to give it an attractive look. Today, it has become a centre of cultural activities. The guardians in their emotiol nostalgia have, in fact, propelled the children to take up the reming of park. This will be a befitting way to pay respect to the memory of the Lakhi th who made this town his homeland and it was here that after entertaining the kids for decades left this abode.
