Chorus grows for block at Mawlai town

SHILLONG, Feb 14: The pressure is mounting on the State government to immediately setup a C&RD Block at Mawlai, as a day after members of the Mawlai Town Dorbar had demanded the same, on Tuesday the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) and FKJGP Mawlai Circle, demanded the C&RD Minister Sngewbhalang Dhar to expedite the process for creating the Block. “We demand the creation of the C&RD Block in Mawlai and to ensure that the Block is set up under Mawlai,” Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said while speaking to reporters here on Tuesday. The NGO leader said the Chief Minister during the last budget session of 2016-2017, had announced the sanction for C&R.D Block at Mawlai, however till date no steps on this issue was witnessed. Meanwhile, the State government is under the process of filizing a feasible land as far as the construction of the new C&RD Block at Mawlai is concerned. This was informed by the C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday who said that so far no feasible land has been acquired for construction of the C&RD Block at Mawlai till date.  “We are under the process of filizing a land with a minimum space of more than 5 acres of land for the construction of the C&RD office at Mawlai but so far no feasible land has been found,” he said. When asked about the government land opposite FCI proposed by the MLA Mawlai constituency, Embhahlang Syiemlieh along with members of the Mawlai Town Dorbar yesterday, the C&RD Minister said, “Anyone can make any proposal but the government needs a feasible land for the construction and this has not been filized till date.”
