Christmas celebrated with enthusiasm across Kokrajhar district

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 25: Along with the rest of the world, Christians of Kokrajhar district celebrated Christmas in churches throughout the district on Sunday.

The churches in Kokrajhar town were seen adorned in an attractive way and followers were seen cheerful on the salvation of Jesus Christ. Several thousands of Catholic followers offered prayer at the Don Bosco Church. State Forest and WPT&BC minister Pramila Rani Brahma also offered prayers at Don Bosco along with other followers. Special prayer was offered at Don Bosco Church for peace and harmony as well as for the leaders of the country to lead the tion properly. The priest of Kokrajhar Don Bosco, Rev. Fr. Damian Basumatary who is also the Principal of the school, administered the prayer at Don Bosco Church where many nuns and Church leaders were also present.

At Kadamtola Baptist Church, Arpon rzary, Warden of JD William School attended the prayer service and read out the Holy Bible. Besides, former EM of BTC, Reo Reoa rzihary, secretary of the council Robinson Mashahary and other officers along with hundreds of followers joined the prayer service.

In her message, minister Pramila Rani Brahma wished that Christmas would bring a message of love, peace and integrity among all sections of people in the region. She said she had been trying her best to contain the rhino poachers but despite her hard efforts, poaching activities were taking place from time to time. She hoped that the poaching could be dealt with the firm hands and it would end soon.

In Lutheran Church at Mijink Nwgwr, Kokrajhar, Gautam Mashahary, Pastor of Gossaigaon Circle, led the prayer service. In other places like Dotma, Ramfalbil, Saraibil, Kachugaon, Jaraguri, Jharbari, Rwnnwgwr, yekgaon, Dholmara, Gossaigaon, Raima and Srirampur, followers were seen celebrating Christmas with enthusiasm.

Bodos have the largest number of tribal Christians followed by Adivasis, Garos and Rabhas, who have accepted various denomitions, including Roman Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Churches of Northern India, Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church and Pentecost.
