Christmas celebrated with fervour in Barak

Silchar, Dec 26: A large number of devotees celebrated Christmas across Barak Valley. They were seen enjoying the Christmas festival across the town. People were seen making a beeline for the various churches of the town. Dressed in most colourful and attractive attires, they came out in large number to celebrate the day. Churches of Oriental High School and Holy Cross School of Silchar were a host of an enormous crowd who came from all parts of the town to seek blessings of Jesus Christ. People praise and pay tribute to the advent of Jesus Christ, the saviour and a messenger of peace. Gospels were sung and scriptures were read in various churches of the town.

 The festival was observed at Silchar Children’s Park at Tarapur Basti Church. The beautifully decorated Church with Christmas tree, Christmas star and balloons. Gospels and reading out of scriptures began from 9am, which was followed by a number of chorus songs. A discussion session on ‘Persol Experience on Christmas Day’ also formed a part of the cultural event. Pastor G Gaichalung Rongmei, S Rongmei and D Gaipalong Rongmei who is the chairman of the Silchar Tarapur Basti Church, spoke at large about the essence of celebrating Christmas. A large number of children took an active part in the celebrations. Later on, lunch was also provided. Devotees at the Presbyterian Church at Oriental High School, Silchar, came together and took part in the mirth and merriment.

 Christmas fever gripped people in Silchar, especially among the youths. They were heard comparing the crowd with the crowd usually seen during the time of Durga Puja festival. A large number of devotes offered prayers on this occasion. The whole town was lit up and decorated in order to establish the ambience of this grand festival. A number of street vendors were seen along the roadside. Group of young boys and girls were relishing in various restaurants of the town. Churches, various buildings, markets and houses were also illumited. At Udharbond also, the festival was observed with pomp and show. Churches, Muldham Punji, Indragar Hmar and Khasia Punji were lit up and decorated beautifully. After the morning gospels, the Holy Bible was read out by the Father of Independent Church of India. Discussions on Christmas were also organized.
