Christmas celebrated with fervour in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar, Dec 26: Christian followers of various denomitions on Monday celebrated Christman across the district as well as in the BTC region. All the churches were seen decorated beautifully. The Christian followers attended the special prayer service in the morning on Monday and prayed for world peace and a peaceful environment for humanity. The churches were seen crowded with devotees since midnight. The Catholic followers in Kokrajhar were seen resembling at Don Bosco Church. Hundreds of followers took part in the prayer service. The Baptist followers gathered at Romanpara Baptist Church while followers of other denomitions were also seen in their respective churches.

State Forest and WPT and BC Minister Pramila Rani Brahma joined the prayer service at Kokrajhar Don Bosco Church where Fr. Damian Basumatary and Fr. Fitre led the religious sermon. In Baptist Church, BTC secretary Robinson Mashahary, Carol rzary and other religious leaders attended the prayer service.

Minister Pramila Rani Brahma said the day was very special for Christians and hoped that the festival would strengthen peace, unity and brotherhood among people. She also said that the Christian followers prayed for regiol and world peace and wished peaceful coexistence among all sections of people in the region.

Meanwhile, people were seen busy preparing delicious food items. Besides locally prepared items like pitha, sithao, and enthab, pork items were also in demand. In the villages, people were seen singing and dancing together. People of other religious faiths also joined in the Christmas celebration. In Kokrajhar district, Christmas was celebrated in Kokrajhar town, Dotma, Ramfalbil, Gossaogaon, Saraibilw, Srirampur, Jharbari and Gaurang Tili. In Chirang, Christmas was celebrated with gaiety at Bengtol, Tukrajhar, Kwila Mwila, Charaguri, Runikhata, Borobazar, Owguri, Runipur and Datgari.
