Christmas celebrated with fervour

Silchar, Dec 25: A large number of devotes and followers of Christianity celebrated Christmas with solemnity on Monday. They were seen enjoying the Christmas festival with mirth and merriment. People were seen making a beeline for the various churches of the town. Dressed in most colourful and attractive attires, they came out in large number to celebrate the day. Churches of Oriental High School, Don Bosco School and Holy Cross School, of Silchar, and other missiory educatiol institutions was a host to a large crowd which came from all parts of the town to seek blessings of Jesus Christ. People praise and pay tribute to the advent of Jesus Christ, the saviour of humanity and a messenger of peace.
 Gospels were sung and scriptures read out in various churches of the town. The beautifully decorated churches featured some exquisitely designed Christmas tree, Christmas star and balloons attracted a large number of people. Gospels and reading out of scriptures began from early morning and it was followed by a number of chorus songs. Devotees at the Presbyterian Church at Oriental High School, Silchar, came together and took part in the mirth and merriment. Christmas fever gripped people in Silchar, especially among the youths. They were heard comparing the crowd with the crowd usually seen during the time of Durga Puja festival.
A large number of devotees offered prayers on this occasion. The whole town was lit up and decorated in order to establish the ambience of this grand festival. A number of street vendors were seen along the roadside. Group of young boys and girls were relishing in various restaurants of the town. Churches, various buildings, markets and houses were also illumited. After the morning gospels, the Holy Bible was read out at all the churches of the town of Silchar. Discussions and sermons on Christmas and Christianity were also held. Prayer meeting, cultural programmes and musical events formed a part of the celebrations.
